EMCCC is currently offering the always popular annual Little Caesars pizza sale fundraiser just in time for the Super Bowl. You can order online this year by going directly to PizzaKit.com. Enter the ID # 238750 and EMCCC will get money back from each pizza kit purchased. Your purchases will be delivered directly to your home.

In keeping with the begrudging arrival of spring this year following such a long and nasty winter, the EMCCC Board of Directors is offering three very exciting events that will benefit both the child care center and the friends and supporters of the child care center. Currently, an internet plant sale is being offered via Flower Power Fundraising through April 29th. To order perennials and bulbs go to: http://www.flowerpowerfundraising.com/campaign?campaign_id=6387. Once there click on the EMCCC link and then order your plants and flowers. Fifty percent of sales go to the child care center. All plants and bulbs will be mailed directly to the purchaser. The annual plant sale at the child care center is running simultaneously this year with the internet plant sale. The traditional offerings of annual plants and hanging baskets are again included. Order forms are available at the EMCCC office or can be e-mailed to interested parties. Contact the EMCCC office at 914-631-2126 or information@masciachildcare.org for additional information. Orders are due to the office by April 25th. Finally, a tag sale will be offered on the grounds of the child care center at 171 Sheldon Avenue on Saturday, May 14th from 10am until 3pm. Please no early birds! The rain date will be Sunday May 15th. Donations of items are currently being accepted. Contact the child care center for drop off information. The only items not being accepted for the tag sale are clothing and bedding. Otherwise, books, household items, jewelry, tools, and anything else sellable will be accepted and sold. There will be a bake sale that day as well. All is being done in support of EMCCC so please participate in any way that you can. As always, it is all for the kids!

FALL CARNIVAL

For the second time in recent years, the Parents’ Community of EMCCC is offering a fall carnival in support of the continuing playground improvement project. Their past efforts helped accomplish the recent transformation of the preschool playground. There is more work to be done to make the playground even better. The 2010 carnival will take place between 11am and 4pm at the child care center at 171 Sheldon Avenue in Tarrytown on November 21st. As good as the last carnival was, this one should be even better. There will be a bake sale, crafts, music, puppets, a clown, and a silent auction. Numerous exciting items have been donated for the silent auction including sporting event tickets, gift baskets, restaurant gift certificates, and overnight weekend stays at local hotels to name just a few. It should be an enormously fun day for children and their families. A modest entrance fee will be charged at the door. A large turnout is expected this year.

INNISBROOK FUNDRAISER 2010

It is time again for the annual Innisbrook fundraiser offered each September. Wrapping paper, ribbon, tags, candies and other holiday items can be purchased in support of EMCCC. These are all items that most people generally need to purchase between now and the end of the year anyway so it makes sense to buy them as part of this fundraiser and support EMCCC at the same time. All of the items offered are very good quality. Purchases can be made either at EMCCC or online. Purchases can be made at EMCCC through the end of September. To make purchases online, go to www.innisbrook.com and select EZ to enter your order. Our school number is 110964. Whether the purchases are made at the center or online, the items will be received well in advance of the holiday season. EMCCC receives 50 % of the the total sales for this fundraiser. In turn, those profits are used in support of EMCCC programs and services offered to children and their families.

AUTUMN GALA SAVE THE DATE

We're pleased to announce that the seventh annual autumn gala for the benefit of the Elizabeth Mascia Child Care Center will be held this year on Thursday, November 11, 2010. It will again be at Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown. The cocktail reception and auction will occur between 6pm and 9:30pm. PLAYGROUND CONTEST

In an effort to keep the playground renovations momentum moving forward, as indicated in the EMCCC June newsletter, we have been entered in a playground contest offered by the not for profit organization Kaboom. The contest winner will receive $ 25,000 worth of playground equipment. Our efforts can be helped by logging in to www.Kaboom.org, and locating "Bill Baird Playground at Lagana Field". Once logged in, points can be earned by rating the playground, making a comment about the playground, and/or posting a photograph of the playground. Thus far we had reached the number one spot for a few days and are currently in second place. The contest will run until the end of August. The contest winner will be judged on the amount of support received, the worthiness of the project, and the relevance of the playground to the community. Kaboom promotes playgrounds within walking distance in communites. A factor in our favor will have to be the fact that the Bill Baird playground is the only one within walking distance of the child care center and for the Pennybridge community where it is located.

SCHOOL AGE SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM

There are still openings in our school age summer camp program but they are filling up rapidly. It will be a fun summer. The camp theme this year will be “Under the Sea” focusing on water related activities and events. The formal camp program operates weekdays from 9am until 4pm but campers can be dropped off as early as 7am and picked up as late as 6pm on those days. This year the camp program will operate for eight weeks starting on Tuesday, July 6th and ending on Friday, August 27th. Full day services will be offered as well for school age children needing additional summer care during the weeks of June 28th and August 30th. Campers will receive breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack each day. The program offered includes exciting weekly trips and a variety of interesting activities including swimming, an aquarium trip, picnics, music and art programs, karate instruction, interactive science demonstrations offered by Mad Science of Westchester, and a summer reading program, to name just a few. We're doing our annual plant sale fundraiser a bit differently this year. It is an online event only. Supporters can go to www.flowerpowerfundraiser.com. Once there, they can click on "Find An Organization" in the upper right hand corner to locate the EMCCC page. It is actually quite easy. Once ordered, the plants will be shipped directly to the address provided by the purchaser. Nothing has to be picked up. The deadline for making purchases in support of EMCCC is Friday, April 23rd. As always, we thank our supporters for participating in our various fundraising events.

AUTUMN GALA

The sixth annual EMCCC autumn fundraising gala honoring Marty and Teri Levine took place last night at Tappan Hill Manor in Tarrytown and what a glorious event it was. The gala committee of the Board of Directors manages to top itself year after year. The turnout was spectacular, the venue was magnificent, the food was delicious, the atmosphere was inviting, and the attendees were oh so generous. This is particularly gratifying during such difficult financial times for everybody. EMCCC has so many loyal and generous friends. All of them are to be applauded and thanked and cherished. And in the end, it all benefits the children of EMCCC. What could possibly be better than that?

FAMILY FUN DAY 2009

This Friday, August 21st is Family Fun Day at EMCCC. It is our way of ending summer camp with a bang. Starting at 10am, there will be an Air Castle, pony rides, a petting zoo, and more. EMCCC children, siblings, and friends are all invited to come by for a fun morning. Familes interested in enrolling their children at EMCCC are also invited to come by and participate. The activites, which are all free of charge, are geared towards toddlers, preschoolers, and school aged children up to sixth grade. The Family Fun Day program will end at lunchtime. We hope to see you there.

PLANT SALE

It is time again for our annual plant sale. Each year we have our popular Spring Fundraiser just before Mother's Day. We provide the highest quality of plants from a local greenhouse. All of our plants are being sold as pre-orders. The plants will be delivered to the Center on Friday, May 8th to be picked up between 12pm and 5pm that same day. WINTER CARNIVAL

We're very excited about a new family event that we're introducing next month. Our first Winter Carnival will take place on Saturday, March 7th from 10am - 2pm at EMCCC (171 Sheldon Avenue in Tarrytown). This fun indoors event targeting younger children has been organized by the EMCCC Parents Committee. There will be an admission fee of $ 3.oo per person. There will be games and activites for the children set up throughout the child care center. A clown will do balloon animals and face painting and there will be a puppet show at 12 noon. Snacks including home baked treats will be available for purchase. A silent auction will be held as well. Auction items include restaurants, sporting events, theater. It should be a fun way to keep the family warm on a Winter afternoon. All proceeds will go towards improving the Sheldon Avenue public playgrounds utilized by the child care center and neighborhood children.

PRE OSCAR PARTY

Our annual Pre Oscar Party fundraiser offered by the EMCCC Board of Directors is just a few weeks away. It will take place this year on the day of the Academy Awards, as usual. That will be Sunday, February 22nd from 5pm - 8pm at JP Doyle's located at 48 Beekman Avenue in Sleepy Hollow. It is a fun couple of hours to spend prior to the Academy Awards to eat, drink, and mingle with many of the friends and supporters of the Elizabeth Mascia Child Care Center. There will be an Oscar pool and a live auction and then everybody will have enough time to get home to watch the awards ceremony. All proceeds from this fun event will support the programs and services of the child care center.

AUTUMN BOOK FAIR

EMCCC will hold the annual Scholastic Book Fair during the week of October 27th. The book fair will run for five days ending on Halloween. There will be a wide selection of books and other educational items for children of all ages displayed in the EMCCC lobby. Not only is this an important fundraising event for EMCCC but a wonderful opportunity for the children to acquire new and interesting books. Promoting literacy and a love for reading is an important part of what we do at EMCCC. Friends of EMCCC are invited to come to the Center to participate in the book fair between the hours of 8am and 5pm during the week of October 27th.

INNISBROOK WRAPS FUNDRAISER

LIBRARY DISPLAY

As part of our fortieth anniversary celebration throughout 2008, the Elizabeth Mascia Child Care Center is proud to be displaying a quilt of squares beautifully decorated by the children and staff members at the Warner Library on Broadway in Tarrytown. This is the first time that this newly made quilt has been put on public display. Artwork created by the children accompanies the quilt. The display will be up until the end of September. If you have the chance, please visit the library to see what the EMCCC children have proudly created.

We extend our congratulations to Emma Pisapia, one of EMCCC’s Toddler Teachers. She has successfully completed the Child Development Associate (CDA) program. The CDA is a nationally accredited comprehensive college credit program in child care. Emma earned her CDA in the area of Infants and Toddlers. She is to be applauded, as she went evenings and weekends over the course of a year to earn this prestigious certificate. EMCCC is certainly better off with her having done so.
It is time to hold the date for the fifth annual EMCCC Autumn Gala. The gala this year will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill Mansion from 6pm – 10pm. The honorees this year include Becky and Skip McGovern. Mike Bennett of WHUD radio will once again serve as the Master of Ceremonies. Look for more gala news during the coming months.

Each spring the Child Care Council of Westchester hosts an annual luncheon at which time a few well chosen individuals are recognized for outstanding service as child care providers in Westchester County. At the luncheon they receive “Joey Awards” named after the first Board President of the Child Care Council. Child Care Center Directors are given the opportunity each year to submit nominees for consideration. I am proud to announce that this year, Lisa Tolbert, the long time EMCCC pre school teacher of the fours class, was nominated and chosen to receive a Joey Award at the luncheon to be held this June 6th. Congratulations to Lisa for this well deserved honor. She has been a loyal employee since the first year the Center opened.

I am also happy to announce that it is time to place orders for the annual plant sale to be held on Friday, May 9th, just in time for Mother’s Day. Orders are due at the EMCCC office by May 1st. Welcome to our new and improved website. We hope you find it informative and useful. We’re happy to have it up and running and welcome your comments. Thank you to our new webmaster for putting it together so well.

I’m proud to announce that EMCCC was recently honored by the Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown Chamber of Commerce as organization of the year. Proclamations were received from the Mayors of both villages. Thank you to the Chamber of Commerce for that recognition. We received this humbling honor in January. What a great way that was to kick off our fortieth year.

We will be celebrating our fortieth anniversary in various ways throughout the year. We’re proud to have been around for so long and to still be providing such a vital service to the community. We’ve even had a special fortieth year logo designed. This new Announcements page is one place where such anniversary events and other news will be posted. Please check it from time to time to see what is going on.
